Texas, Make The Call For Health Care Reform!

by: kath25

Thu Sep 10, 2009 at 14:50:14 PM CDT

Last night, President Obama made his case to America for health care reform. Today, we need to continue that push here by calling our Congresspeople in support of real reform. We need to know that our voices were heard, and that the people of Texas had a say in the process.

Call and email your Representative today.

I don't care if your representative has already vowed to support the public option, or wouldn't vote to insure his own Mother. Get on the phone and call! Make your voice heard, make sure your representative knows what you think.

We need real health care reform in Texas.

Texas has the highest rate and number of uninsured residents. Texas has the highest rate of uninsured children, nearly double the national average. Over 80% of our uninsured residents live in working families. Texas has a lower rate of employer-sponsored health insurance than the rest of the country. Texas has higher insurance premiums than the average in the rest of the country. You name it, we're doing worse, we're falling behind.

Stand up for Texas, stand up for health insurance reform.

Whether you've been phonebanking for weeks, or you just finally got enough information last night to advocate in favor of health care reform, today is the day to do something about it. Pick up the phone, type a quick email, and send your support for health care reform from Texas to Washington today.

Texans for Obama DC Meet-Up

by: kath25

Sat Jan 24, 2009 at 13:16:12 PM CST

Thanks to everyone who attended our DC meet-up during the Inaugural Weekend! The event was a huge success, with a crowd of well over 150 Texans meeting, greeting, and having a great time. Special thanks to Bobbi K. for bringing the famous Texans for Obama banner to the party. Man, that banner's been everywhere!

Juan Sepulveda, Texas State Director for the Obama for America campaign, spoke about the great work done by Texans during this election. He thanked everyone for their service and reminded them to stay involved locally, keep making a difference. Ken Flippin, who worked for Obama in Houston, spoke about Turn Texas Blue, our movement to return this state to its Democratic roots. He told attendees to stay tuned to www.texansforobama.com and www.turntexasblue.com for updates, as well as Burnt Orange Report.

Enjoy some photos of your fellow Texans in DC! See anyone you know?

One Weekend Can Change The World

by: kath25

Mon Oct 27, 2008 at 15:05:48 PM CDT

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usTake a free trip to a battleground state to help elect Barack Obama!

Texas is sending buses of volunteers to battleground states across America. All travel and lodging is provided. Volunteers will spend their days knocking on doors, turning out Obama supporters to vote. I took one of these trips to Denver last weekend, and it was amazing. The people are wonderful, and it feels so great to know we're making a real difference in the election.

I'm not a big believer in the Electoral College as a system--living in New Jersey, New York, Illinois and Texas, I've never really "mattered" in the outcome of a Presidential election--but knocking on those doors in a battleground state felt like I was making a tangible difference in the election.

Join us! Barack Obama needs your help in these critical battlegrounds. Email roadtriptochange@gmail.com and we'll set you up. It's free, it's fun, and it can change the world.

Needs In The Austin Obama Office

by: kath25

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 15:20:30 PM CDT

Good news -- the Obama campaign is re-opening an office in Austin for the Texas staff. Staff will use it to lay the groundwork for victory this November. The space is great, but the staff could use the support of Austin residents to make the campaign even more effective.

I noticed that the office needs the following supplies. Can any of the great Texans for Obama help?

  • Fax Machine
  • Room Dividers
  • Microwave
  • Computer Printers
  • Office Copy Machine
  • Area Rugs

Any infrastructure that we can donate will allow the campaign to invest all of its resources into field staff and persuasion materials. If you can spare any of these items until November, please shoot me an email and I'll take care of it!

My email is keh303 (at) gmail.com
