Road rage
The public is not fooled by Travis County Commissioner Gerald Daugherty's last-minute fix for the U.S. 290 problems in Oak Hill, which, incidentally, were announced on the first day of early voting.
Why did it take a formidable challenge to his re-election bid to provide the quick fix?
Precinct 3 would be better served by Karen Huber, a highly proactive, experienced facilitator of cooperative solutions to development and growth issues. We need a county commissioner who plans and does not react. We don't need last-minute quick fixes to long-term problems.
We need a person who sees the big picture and will work to solve issues. That person is Huber.

Polls show Obama, McCain in dead heat in Arizona
By Paul Giblin
Tribune
http://www.eastvalleytribune.c...
Presidential contenders John McCain and Barack Obama are running in a statistical dead heat in Arizona, according to two surveys released Monday, a troubling development for the home-state senator.
And a third survey scheduled for release today will offer a similar assessment.
With just a week to go before Election Day, and weeks after early voting began, Arizona is too close to call, according to research directors who oversaw the surveys.
This is how the numbers stacked up:

Dear Democrats:
You are invited to two events at your Western Travis County Democratic Voter Outreach Center (3303 N. FM 620) this coming weekend:
1) Friday September 26, at 6 pm: Presidential Debate watch party
Come and enjoy the debate among your fellow Democrats--cheer Obama's thoughtful remarks, and boo McCain's errant nonsense! There will be beverages and snacks, including popcorn you can throw at the screen whenever McCain tells a lie!
2) Sunday September 28, from 2 to 6 pm: Rock the Vote!
We will have food, fun, and music, and organize ourselves for the final voter registration push, and for continuing work for our local candidates. We will also be collecting items for the Capital Area Food Bank, which has been depleted by the influx of hurricane refugees.
LOCATION:
3303 RR 620
just south of Hudson Bend Rd
on the east side of RR 620 next to Mr. Gatti's Pizza

Now is the time, more than any other for YOU to make a difference in this tight election.
Obama for America URGENTLY needs phone banking volunteers from Central Texas to make calls to fellow Central Texan Obama Supporters and ask if they are available to go to a battleground state for 5 weeks for the Obama for America Campaign. Barack Obama and Joe Biden are asking Texans to find several hundred Texans that can go to the battleground states as FIELD ORGANIZERS by September 29th!
Most Texas volunteers will be going to either NM, CO or Florida. They will need to go to Camp Obama before they leave for a battleground state. The final two Camp Obama sessions are scheduled for September 20-21 and 27-28 right here in Austin. All expenses will be paid by the volunteer, although lodging is provided and typically includes breakfast. The local field offices will also provide some food. Transportation in many cases will be donated by Obama supporters. A web site for free/cheap airline tickets follows: http://www.travelforchange.org or call 650.353.1018 .
If you are interested in helping with these calls then please send Andy Balinsky an email @ balinsky@gmail.com with your name, email, and phone number so that he can assign you an account to access the virtual phonebank for this project. You can call right from home, from the Coordinated campaign Offices and from the 620 Democratic Office. Andy will also put you in touch with Starshine Nolan, Obama For America Central Texas Field Organizer.
This is something we can all do to help OBAMA & BIDEN win!
Please forward this URGENT REQUEST to all of your OBAMA contacts.
Thanks so much!
Chris Wilson
