5/19: Meet Bill White at Scholz Garten

by: Texans for Obama

Tue May 19, 2009 at 11:26:28 AM CDT

President Obama unveiled today a bold new plan to increase auto fuel efficiency. This will reduce our dependency on foreign oil and help our environment. Obama's delivering real results and creating change we can believe in!

Today's news is welcome after eight long years of the Bush/Cheney era, but we must keep pressing forward. In order to pass Obama's full agenda, we need to elect more Democratic Senators who won't filibuster Obama's call for change.

Here in our own backyard, Texas Democrats have a unique opportunity to win the open U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Houston Mayor Bill White is a nationally recognized leader on alternative energy, and he's announced his candidacy as a Democrat for this Senate seat. Tonight, he'll be at Scholz Garten to answer your questions about his policy proposals. This is an important race with national implications, so we look forward to seeing you at Scholz Garten.

Texans for Obama May Meetup
Featuring Mayor Bill White
Tuesday, May 19
6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Scholz Garten
1607 San Jacinto Blvd
Austin, TX 78701
Free Admission
RSVP on Facebook

Thanks for everything you did to help elect Barack Obama. Now let's continue the momentum and elect a Texas Senator who will support Obama's agenda.

Our next monthly meetup is scheduled for June 16. The special guest will be John Sharp, another great Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. Fired up and ready to go!

Tomorrow: OFA Listening Tour at Scholz Garten

by: Ian

Wed Apr 22, 2009 at 16:14:20 PM CDT

Texans for Obama Yard Sign Pictures, Images and Photos

Fellow Texans,

It's been a busy spring, and President Obama continues to fulfill his campaign promises.

PhotobucketJust yesterday, he signed legislation that triples the size of the AmeriCorps service program over the next eight years and expands ways for students to earn money for college. While Republicans want Obama to fail and have even criticized this important national service program, it's refreshing to finally have a Democrat in the White House who's willing to fight for change we can believe in.

Here in Texas, we have been inspired by Obama's call to national service. We recently got organized and went door-to-door to collect canned food for the Capital Area Food Bank. Our team collected over 3,000 pounds of food, and we're planning future service opportunities throughout the year.

Yes we can!

ORGANIZING FOR AMERICA - LISTENING TOUR

Want to learn how to get more involved?

PhotobucketOur next volunteer meetup is scheduled for tomorrow evening, April 23rd. Normally, we meet every 3rd Tuesday, but this month, we're joining up with the official Organizing for America campaign. They've launched a statewide listening tour, and they'll be in Austin tomorrow evening at Scholz Garten.

It's exciting that OFA is investing real resources into Texas, so you're encouraged to come learn more about the future of the Obama movement and offer your suggestions.

OFA Listening Tour
Featuring Luke Hayes, Texas Director of OFA
Thursday, April 23
6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Scholz Garten
1607 San Jacinto Blvd
Austin, TX 78701
RSVP on Facebook

UPCOMING EVENTS CALENDAR

Next month, we'll return to our normal volunteer meetup schedule. (Every 3rd Tuesday at Scholz Garten at 6:00 p.m.)

PhotobucketYou're invited to meet the two leading Democratic U.S. Senate candidates to replace Kay Bailey Hutchison when she steps down. Both Bill White and John Sharp are excellent candidates, and with your help, we can turn Texas blue!

The election date isn't yet certain, but most people believe that Sen. Hutchison will step down later this year to challenge Rick Perry in the 2010 gubernatorial race. This will present a unique opportunity for Texas Democrats to win a rare open U.S. Senate seat. The election is extremely important because it could provide Obama with the all-important 60th Senate vote to stop future Republican filibusters.

We need to stand up to Republican obstructionism so we can enact progressive legislation that helps improve people's lives. So come join us at one of our upcoming TFO meetups and get involved:

"TFO Meetup: Meet Bill White, Candidate for U.S. Senate"
   * Mayor of Houston
   * 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
   * Tuesday, May 19
   * Scholz Garten

   * 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
   * Tuesday, June 16
   * Scholz Garten
   * RSVP on Facebook

If you'd like to get more involved on the local level and support your Democratic clubs, then please also consider attending these great events below.

Vote Obama. Vote Blue. Video.

by: fishman

Mon Nov 03, 2008 at 14:31:47 PM CST

Hey Everyone:

This is something I just created in association with DownBallotBlue.com. It's a little video that reminds you to vote Obama and Democrat all the way (as much as you can and especially in Texas-geez). Don't worry-it won't bore you to death! Even if you are Republican or Undecided you may still enjoy it. Ron Paul fans may even enjoy it. This is a little late in the game, I know, but there are still plenty of people who haven't participated in early voting. So pass it along and make it happen on Tuesday!

URGENT: Central Texas Phonebankers need several hundred traveling Texans

by: hillsforobama

Tue Sep 16, 2008 at 08:11:29 AM CDT

Now is the time, more than any other for YOU to make a difference in this tight election.

Obama for America  URGENTLY needs phone banking volunteers from Central Texas to make calls to fellow Central Texan Obama Supporters and ask if they are available to go to a battleground state for 5 weeks for the Obama for America Campaign.  Barack Obama and Joe Biden are  asking Texans to find several hundred Texans that can go to the battleground states as FIELD ORGANIZERS by September 29th!

Most Texas volunteers will be going to either NM, CO or Florida.  They will need to go to Camp Obama before they leave for a battleground state.  The final two Camp Obama sessions are scheduled for September 20-21 and 27-28 right here in Austin.  All expenses will be paid by the volunteer, although lodging is provided and typically includes breakfast.  The local field offices will also provide some food.  Transportation in many cases will be donated by Obama supporters.  A web site for free/cheap airline tickets follows: http://www.travelforchange.org or call 650.353.1018 .

If you are interested in helping with these calls then please send Andy Balinsky an email @ balinsky@gmail.com with your name, email, and phone number so that he can assign you an account to access the virtual phonebank for this project.  You can call right from home, from the Coordinated campaign Offices and from the 620 Democratic Office.  Andy  will also put you in touch with Starshine Nolan, Obama For America   Central Texas Field Organizer.

This is something we can all do to help OBAMA & BIDEN  win!

Please forward this URGENT REQUEST  to all of your OBAMA contacts.

Thanks so much!

Chris Wilson

It's official...Obama wins Texas!

by: Ian

Sat Jun 07, 2008 at 21:27:55 PM CDT

Thanks to all our volunteers who worked so hard over the last year.  Your efforts have paid off!

Obama wins Texas - finally
Statesman

Unless Democratic officials say otherwise later Saturday, it looks like Sen. Barack Obama will take 99 Texas delegates to the August Democratic National Convention in Denver with Sen. Hillary Clinton landing 94 delegates based on voting on primary day and at battles starting with the boisterous primary-night caucuses. It took this long to say (that's three months since the March 4 primary) so for sure because the total depended on which Democratic delegates showed up for this weekend's state convention.

So ink in the headline for sure: Obama Wins Texas.

Yes we did!

Vote for my wife for national delegate! - SD 25

by: Ian

Fri May 30, 2008 at 18:25:44 PM CDT

Over the last year and a half, my wonderful wife has been working hard on a grassroots level to support Obama.  She's been there from the very beginning, and I don't know where our exciting Texans for Obama movement would be without her.

Specifically, I'd like to highlight her key role in organizing the big rally at Auditorium Shores.  At that early stage in the campaign, Obama did not have  a big advance team like he does now.  Because Amy had managed several city council campaigns, she was able to cut through the red tape and get approval for the site location and arrange for most of the logistics of the event.  It was a miracle that we were able to pull off such a big rally with so little lead time, but thanks to Amy, the event was a huge success.

Watch the photo slideshow below to see some events Amy has helped organize...

Texas Democratic Party Chair and wife are two more superdelegates for Obama

by: mariochampion

Fri May 30, 2008 at 08:23:24 AM CDT

As reported on BurntOrangeReport.com and Good Morning America this morning, TDP chair and his wife, member of the Non-Urban/Ag Caucus of the DNC, have made a super superdelegate decision to back Barack Obama.

Boyd Richie's statement:

"Today, I am proud to announce my support for Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States. I believe Senator Obama is the candidate who can best provide the leadership and change Texans desire. Too many Texas families find themselves unable to make ends meet, much less save and invest in the future, due to Republican policies that burden the middle class and divide Americans. Senator Obama has the skill and ability to unite Americans from all walks of life and put our country back on the right track."

"I am also grateful for Senator Obama's commitment to help build the Texas Democratic Party. Senator Obama and his campaign understand something that Texans have known for at least a couple of years - that when Democratic candidates invest the time and resources necessary, Texas Democrats have the numbers to compete and win across every region of our great state. We made progress in 2006, and in 2008, the Texas Democratic Party is more energized, better organized, and we are poised to make significant gains this fall."

"This was a difficult decision to make, because I have great respect for Senator Clinton and her Texas supporters. I sincerely appreciate how hard she worked in Texas to deliver a message that resonated with so many voters, and I commend her campaign and the important role she played in the historic participation our Party is experiencing this year. As always, the Texas Democratic Party will conduct party business with absolute fairness and respect for every Democrat, without regard to whom one supports in the primary or convention, and I am confident Texas Democrats will unite and work together side by side to win this November."

Obama's Map to Victory

by: mariochampion

Tue May 13, 2008 at 09:23:49 AM CDT

(a great post lifted from the good peoples of BurntOrangeReport.com)

There is a stellar analysis of how Democratic turnout and Obama's longterm organizing (exemplified by last weekend's Vote for Change kickoff) point the way towards an Obama electoral college victory in November.

Now, of course, things are so far from sewn up -- i believe we are still in the gathering threads and needles stage -- but with deep analysis of demographics, trends, polling and exit data Poblano has made some very educated guesses. Guesses which "managed to peg both Indiana and North Carolina in ways that drew widespread attention and outperformed all pollsters and RCP combined."

Obama Voter Registration in Austin

by: kath25

Sun May 11, 2008 at 15:00:31 PM CDT

(great work! - promoted by mariochampion)

(Sorry I didn't cross-post this last night -- I had to race out to a bachelorette party. And what about that apocalyptic hail storm? Wacky.)

Yesterday was a great day for Barack Obama, and an even better day for the hundreds and thousands of new voters registered this weekend across the United States. Here in Austin we ran a voter registration drive that crossed the city, looking to make as many new Democrats as possible. We ended up with several hundred new voters, and dozens of new deputy registrars.

We'll be at it again next weekend, Saturday May 17 at 1:00 p.m. starting from Nuevo Leon, 1501 East 6th Street, concurrent with the launch of the Travis County Coordinated Campaign.

Here's some photos from our event. Enjoy!

Paying off HRC's debt.... is this a possibility?

by: frankhaustin

Tue May 06, 2008 at 22:45:14 PM CDT

I was having such a good night watching the returns.  Whoo Hoo!!!  We are down to two points in Indiana!!!

...until I heard the folks on MSNBC suggest that the Obama campaign might pay off the HRC campaign debt as part of a condition for her stepping aside.  Obama is not seriously thinking about doing this is he?  Being in the right about the War, the gas tax debate, and practically every measure of moral character would be nothing compared to paying off your rival with your supporters donations just to get ahead.

If Obama wants to pay off the HRC debt or repay the 5 million dollars she lent her campaign then let him pay out of his own pocket.

Sharon Drew Morgen for National Delegate

by: sharondrew

Tue May 06, 2008 at 12:11:36 PM CDT

Hello Everyone,

My name is Sharon Drew Morgen (Sharon Drew is my first name). I'm writing to introduce myself in the hopes that you might consider me to be an Obama Delegate to the National Convention. My vision is to do what it takes to get Obama elected as the next President. And I am writing to:

+ Get your input as to how I can personally help make that happen,
+ Elicit your trust that I will work toward our common goal;
+ Start a community dialogue to ensure we all get heard, regardless of who gets nominated for National.

As with any other 'job interview', I will offer my credentials, and then write a brief note to explain my absolute passion for Obama, the hope he is bringing to the world, and my beliefs in the collaborative nature of his vision. I, too, have been on a life-long mission to make the world a better place, and understanding what Obama is doing makes me feel less alone, more hopeful, and more energized to keep going. As we all know, trying to change the world is a dark and lonely job, but one that is now far more probable as a result of Obama's candidacy. But more on that later.

Another Texas Superdelegate for Obama

by: mariochampion

Fri May 02, 2008 at 15:00:00 PM CDT

More good news! from BarackObama.com

Texas superdelegate John Patrick endorsed Barack Obama today, citing his record of standing up for working families and opposing trade deals that fail to protect American workers. Patrick explained:

   Senator Barack Obama has spent a lifetime standing up for American workers, and he will be a crucial voice for us in the White House. Senator Obama chose a career as an organizer on the streets of Chicago, fighting for working families who lost their jobs, specifically those families in neighborhoods devastated by steel plant closings. He has consistently opposed unfair trade deals that fail to offer protection to American workers - like NAFTA. Senator Obama has a real plan to put money back in the pockets of working families by restoring the manufacturing base in America.

Patrick is a Democratic National Committee member, a 31 year member of the United Steelworkers (USW) as well as a Vice President of the Texas AFL/CIO. The endorsement brings the total number of superdelegates to endorse Barack Obama to 249. Barack is now 283 delegates away from securing the Democratic nomination.

Pablo Vazquez for National Delegate, SD-25

by: PabloVazquez

Mon Apr 28, 2008 at 23:18:54 PM CDT

Greetings!

My name is Pablo Vazquez and let me start off by saying that it is an honor and great pleasure to work with all of you to get Senator Obama in the White House this fall. If you are not aware, I am in the running to be a National Delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver for our district and our lovely State of Texas.

To me, Senator Obama represents all the potential that this country has been hiding for almost half a century. All the hopes and dreams of bygone generations, the aspirations of all the people who have come to this country to live a better life and create a better world, and the work of our greatest presidents to make this country great and keep it united against the threat of great destruction and division. For many of us, Senator Obama is the man at the right time and hopefully soon, in the right place. Let's make that happen and I am asking you humbly to give me the opportunity to help get this accomplished.
