President Obama unveiled today a bold new plan to increase auto fuel efficiency. This will reduce our dependency on foreign oil and help our environment. Obama's delivering real results and creating change we can believe in!
Today's news is welcome after eight long years of the Bush/Cheney era, but we must keep pressing forward. In order to pass Obama's full agenda, we need to elect more Democratic Senators who won't filibuster Obama's call for change.
Here in our own backyard, Texas Democrats have a unique opportunity to win the open U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Houston Mayor Bill White is a nationally recognized leader on alternative energy, and he's announced his candidacy as a Democrat for this Senate seat. Tonight, he'll be at Scholz Garten to answer your questions about his policy proposals. This is an important race with national implications, so we look forward to seeing you at Scholz Garten.

Thanks for everything you did to help elect Barack Obama. Now let's continue the momentum and elect a Texas Senator who will support Obama's agenda.
Our next monthly meetup is scheduled for June 16. The special guest will be John Sharp, another great Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. Fired up and ready to go!
One of the most widely read blogs in the country, Huffington Post, featured on their front page last night a picture with our Texans for Obama banner. The Texas delegation had great seats for Obama's big speech (just 11 rows back from the podium), and we were able to get our banner on the stadium jumbotron screen twice.
Obama's speech was truly inspiring, and it was a thrill to be a part of history last night. Onward to victory!

Turn Williamson County Blue
This past weekend the Williamson County Coordinated Campaign office opened its doors for a kick off party to turn Williamson County blue. Given the history of the county it may seem unbelievable to think that such a thing could happen, however it was clear from the large crowds on Saturday that Williamson County residences are ready for a change!
The coordinated office will be the home base for Jaime Lynn (for County Attorney), Diana Maldonado (for Texas House 52), Mark Thompson (for Texas Railroad Commissioner), Greg Windham (for County Commissioner, precinct 3), Brian Ruiz (for US House of Representatives, district 31), Mike Grimes (for County Commissioner, precinct 1), Woodie Jones (for Chief Justice, 3rd Court of Appeals), and James Dillon (for Texas house District 20).
Our first big volunteering event will be tomorrow Saturday the 26th when we will be block walking targeted areas in the county to register voters. We'll meet up at 9:30 at the Williamson County Coordinating office located at 110 S. I-35 Round Rock, Texas 78681 for block walking information. For more detailed information please contact Branden Frame at bradenframe@gmail.com.
Come join the movement and help turn Williamson County Blue
The Travis County Democratic Party invites you to join your fellow activists as we open our new campaign headquarters for the 2008 TCDP Coordinated Campaign.
We've secured the biggest campaign office in Travis County history, so come by and check it out!
Last Saturday, May 10, we had a great turnout here in Austin for our Vote for Change kickoff. Over 50 volunteers helped register over 225 voters. The Vote for Change effort wasn't just a one time event; it's a continuing project that will go all the way to the election in November.
If you missed it last week or want to keep helping to bring more voters into the process, we will be continuing our efforts this Saturday in conjunction with the Travis County Coordinated Campaign Kick-off. Join us this Saturday as we help Sen. Obama and down ballot Democrats win in November with a wave of new and energized voters!
What: Voter registration at designated locations around Travis County and blockwalking on designated streets
Where: Nuevo Leon Restaurant, 1501 E. 6th St, map When: Saturday, May 17, 1:00 PM

If you do, we recommend writing: "Register to Vote or Change Your Address."
Regardless of whether you supported Clinton or Obama, you gotta be happy that Texas Democrats are voting in record numbers in 2008. With some hard work, we can shock the world and turn Texas blue in November.
With 99% of the votes in, it looks as though the number of votes in the Texas Democratic primary will match-or slightly exceed-John Kerry's Texas vote total for the 2004 general election.
Kerry received 2,832,704 votes in Texas in (November) 2004. Clinton and Obama are at 2,807,811 between them so far (for the primary), splitting the counted vote 51% to 48%.
Hillary Clinton received more votes than all Republican candidates combined in Texas last night, Barack Obama received nearly as many. Clinton doubled the vote total of Republican nominee John McCain, Obama nearly did as well.
Remember, this is in Texas, home of George W. Bush, a state where we haven't won a Senate race since Lloyd Bentsen in 1988, or a Governor's race since Ann Richards in 1990, where no Democrat has won the state's electoral votes since Jimmy Carter in 1976.
Out of all the phenomenal turnout-related numbers we've seen thus far, these have shocked me the most. Texas is the largest Republican stronghold in the country, and Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are generating unheard-of levels of excitement there.
This is borne out not by anecdotal evidence, nor by polling numbers, but actual votes cast by actual people.
Frankly, I wouldn't put money on it (unless I got good odds), but I'm starting to think that Texas' 34 electoral votes might be in play in 2008.
At any rate, the GOP has got to be nervous as hell.
I attended a really excellent caucus traning from the Travis County Democratic Party on Wednesday. This is a very in depth presentation on the ins and outs of the convention process. The best way you can help Barack win delegates is to know what is going on when you attend your caucus.
There is another session:
Saturday, February 23
11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Austin City Council Chambers
301 W. 2nd street.
