Unless Democratic officials say otherwise later Saturday, it looks like Sen. Barack Obama will take 99 Texas delegates to the August Democratic National Convention in Denver with Sen. Hillary Clinton landing 94 delegates based on voting on primary day and at battles starting with the boisterous primary-night caucuses. It took this long to say (that's three months since the March 4 primary) so for sure because the total depended on which Democratic delegates showed up for this weekend's state convention.
So ink in the headline for sure: Obama Wins Texas.
It's time for Texas Democrats to come together to defeat John McCain and take back the White House for the Democrats!
To help encourage party unity, we're joining up with our Clinton friends to host a "Unity Pub Crawl" tonight to welcome statewide convention delegates to Austin. Both the Obama and Clinton campaigns are hosting parties at nearby bars on Red River Street, and the goal is to encourage Texas Democrats to intermingle and kick-start the unity process.
This Unity Pub Crawl is within walking distance of the Hilton Hotel, so come join us tonight as we "paint Red River Street blue"!

Over the last year and a half, my wonderful wife has been working hard on a grassroots level to support Obama. She's been there from the very beginning, and I don't know where our exciting Texans for Obama movement would be without her.
Specifically, I'd like to highlight her key role in organizing the big rally at Auditorium Shores. At that early stage in the campaign, Obama did not have a big advance team like he does now. Because Amy had managed several city council campaigns, she was able to cut through the red tape and get approval for the site location and arrange for most of the logistics of the event. It was a miracle that we were able to pull off such a big rally with so little lead time, but thanks to Amy, the event was a huge success.
Watch the photo slideshow below to see some events Amy has helped organize...
Just a quick note in case some adventurous Texans were off o make their voices heard at the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting: Obama, like Frankie, says 'Relax, Don't do it' (pause to snicker and remember the t-shirts.)
Sen. Barack Obama's (D-Ill.) campaign is urging its supporters not to demonstrate at Saturday's highly anticipated Democratic National Committee (DNC) meeting on how to handle the delegates of Florida and Michigan.
In an internal campaign e-mail obtained by The Hill, the Obama campaign states, "We look forward to the meeting proceeding smoothly - and we're asking our supporters not to show up to demonstrate, passionately as they feel about this campaign."
This weekend's meeting of the DNC's 30-member Rules and Bylaws Committee (RBC) at a Marriot Wardman Park hotel in Washington, D.C. is expected to be a media circus, and will likely attract many supporters of Obama and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.).
But the Obama campaign wants to avoid heated intraparty confrontations that would attract national headlines and be replayed on the cable news networks. Saturday's potential public relations nightmare comes as the Obama campaign is taking steps to unify the party[emphasis added] as the Democratic primary process appears to be winding down.
MSNBC's FirstRead reporting on superdelegate movement across the memorial Day weekend calculates Obama to be a mere 51.5 delegates away from declaring victory in this close contest. Good news for team Obama! So, let's remember, here in Texas, that we have won in the only metric that counts -- delegates-- and on June 6 it will be perfectly clear once and for all.
Let's all pledge to take the high road with Sen. Clinton's supporters, our neighbors and our friends, as they come to terms with the end of her historic candidacy because, well, a) it's the high road and we should always take it, and b) we have lots of work to do to Turn Texas Blue. Work which will require ALL of us.
*** The delegate count: Over the Memorial Day weekend, Obama picked up six more superdelegates after state conventions in Georgia, Wyoming, Hawaii, and Alaska; Clinton, meanwhile, got one. Here are the counts: PLEDGED: Obama 1,647, Clinton 1,502; SUPERS: Obama, 315.5, Clinton 282.5; EDWARDS PLEDGED: Obama 12, Clinton 0; TOTAL: Obama 1,974.5, Clinton 1,784.5. Obama is 51.5 delegates away from the needed 2,026. Speaking of the delegate count, don't miss the weekend CW-setting poll in Montana showing Obama with a double-digit lead over Clinton. No new public polling in Puerto Rico or South Dakota just yet, but it appears safe to call Obama the favorite in South Dakota as well and Clinton the favorite in Puerto Rico.

As we know, the only metric that really counts in this closely contested Democratic primary is Delegates (the pledged/elected and the supers). As the Obama campaign and MSNBC.com 's First Readare reporting, Obama has reached a very important milestone: Obama has now won the majority of pledged delegates available in this contest.
Pause a moment won't ya and savor that...
Amazingly, First Read points out, with Florida and Michigan thrown in Obama is only 17 delegates away from THAT victory. (and, really, who reasonably expects to count Michigan as is, when Obama's name wasn't even on the ballot.)
Of course, this contest isnt really over until the clock runs out, and we should remain respectful of the players' right to stay in until that buzzer rings, if they play a clean well-contested game. Just remember, for us in Texas, that buzzer doesnt sound until June 6 at the state convention.
From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Obama has won a majority of the pledged delegates, according to the NBC NEWS count. NBC NEWS has allocated 20 of Oregon's 52 delegates, so far with a 10-10 split.
Obama now has 1,636 pledged delegates, including the 10 Edwards delegates. He needed 1,627.
The NBC NEWS Delegate Counts:
PLEDGED: Obama 1626 to 1491
SUPERDELEGATES: Obama 304.5 to 280.5
EDWARDS PL. DELEGATES: Obama 10 to 0
TOTAL: Obama 1,940.5 to 1,771.5
*** UPDATE *** NOTE: Obama needs 17 more pledged delegates to win a majority of the pledged delegates, INCLUDING splits favorable to Clinton in Michigan and Florida.
Texas superdelegate John Patrick endorsed Barack Obama today, citing his record of standing up for working families and opposing trade deals that fail to protect American workers. Patrick explained:
Senator Barack Obama has spent a lifetime standing up for American workers, and he will be a crucial voice for us in the White House. Senator Obama chose a career as an organizer on the streets of Chicago, fighting for working families who lost their jobs, specifically those families in neighborhoods devastated by steel plant closings. He has consistently opposed unfair trade deals that fail to offer protection to American workers - like NAFTA. Senator Obama has a real plan to put money back in the pockets of working families by restoring the manufacturing base in America.
Patrick is a Democratic National Committee member, a 31 year member of the United Steelworkers (USW) as well as a Vice President of the Texas AFL/CIO. The endorsement brings the total number of superdelegates to endorse Barack Obama to 249. Barack is now 283 delegates away from securing the Democratic nomination.
A little more mainstream catching up: Time posted an article on Monday titled "Obama Wins Most Texas Delegates." There numbers differ slightly from those reported at BurntOrangeReport.com, but all sources willing to make the call, make it in favor of Obama.
Sen. Barack Obama has won the overall delegate race in Texas thanks to a strong showing in Democratic county conventions this past weekend.
[...snip...]
The precinct caucuses elected delegates to about 280 county and state senate district conventions on Saturday. The AP awarded the remaining delegates based on results from Saturday's conventions, showing Obama with about 58 percent of vote, compared to 42 percent for Clinton.
The good news is there, but, as the songs says, there are miles to go before we sleep. Don't forget to Make Calls for Obama, and be prepared to be called on for State Convention organizing.
Finally, the word is sneaking out to the more mainstream media: Obama's performance at the county and SD conventions over-rode the primary night deficit. Thanks to all of us, and hundreds of thousands more, Obama has won Texas!
From NBC's Domenico Montanaro NBC News has allocated the remaining nine Texas caucus delegates, 7-2, in favor of Obama. That means the Illinois senator has won the most delegates, 99-94, as a result of both the Texas primary and caucuses.
Obama now leads by 129 in the overall delegate count, 1637-1508. Obama leads by 162 pledged delegates, 1415-1253. (There remains just one delegate unallocated from Democrats Abroad.) Clinton leads among superdelegates, 255-222, per the NBC News Political Unit count.
Also note, the Obama campaign has passed around that it has picked up two delegates in Mississippi, showing Obama with a 20-13 lead. NBC News' count remains 19-14 for Obama so far.
With about a third of the state's 228 delegates to the Democratic National Convention technically still in play, early indications were that the district conventions seemed on track to help Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, the loser of the popular vote in Texas by about four percentage points, recoup his losses and realize a net win over New York Sen. Hillary Clinton in delegates at the state party convention in June.
Barack Obama handily wins Dallas County district conventions
Dallas Morning News
Barack Obama cruised to victory over Hillary Rodham Clinton in Dallas County's Senate district conventions Saturday, as Texas Democrats continued their arduous and sometimes frustrating process of choosing national convention delegates.
Sen. Barack Obama's campaign says that based on results from some 280 regional conventions in Texas on Saturday, he overtook Sen. Hillary Clinton in delegates. Punch line: She may have won the popular vote in the March 4 primary, but he substantially outperformed her at primary-night precinct caucuses that fed into the regional conventions.
The Obama campaign's success at getting supporters to participate at the grass-roots level was evident again locally, with the candidate snaring 58 percent of the 81 delegates bound for the June state convention, the next step in Texas Democrats' confounding delegate-selection process.
Forty-seven Obama delegates and 34 Clinton delegates will represent McLennan County at the state convention.
Texas caucus conventions get going with crowds, some confusion
Associated Press
Results tallied by The Associated Press showed that Obama had 1,858 delegates selected to go on to the state convention, or 59 percent, compared with Clinton's 1,270 delegates, or 41 percent. That's out of about 7,300 delegates expected to be selected at senate district meetings across the state.
