As you know, Obama for America has become Organizing for America.
Things are happening right here in Texas as well.
Luke Hayes is the new State Director here in Texas for Organizing for America.
With this in mind, Luke will be here in Longview on Thursday May 21 as part of his Listening Tour of Texas. Gregg County for Obama is proud to host this event as we move forward in furthering President Obama's agenda, pursuing public service, and turning Texas blue.
What: Listening Tour with Luke Hayes, Texas State Director for Organizing for America
Gregg County For Obama is continuing moving forward in 2009 after all our hard work in the election! We are working on policy issues in a variety of areas.
One of our initatives is a partnership with Working Effectively for Clean Air Now (WE CAN). WE CAN, founded in 2000, is an alliance of individuals, businesses, and organizations advocating sustainable energy strategies for North East Texas, including the use of renewables and conservation. WE CAN educates the public on air quality issues and provides information on opportunities to participate with relative policy-making and legislative decisions.
With this in mind, we are having a Think Tank Meeting for Green Power in Longview with WE CAN on Thursday March 5, 2009 at 6:00 PM. Tammy Cromer-Campbell of WE CAN and Gregg County For Obama will coordinate the discussion. Please come on Thursday -- we want input from as many people as possible!

At Annie's List Watch Pary last night (Thurs., Aug. 28th, Belmont Downtown), TX State Representatives Eddie Rodriguez and Elliott Naishtat commented on down ballot races with Barack on top of the ballot in TX. Wells Dunbar, Austin Chroncle, captured the soundbites:
Eddie commented "fantastic speech" (Barack Obama Speech). "Barack said exactly what he needed to say and was great at attacking McCain". "For down ballot races it is great to have Obama at the top of the ticket, Obama won 60% in the TX Primary".
Elliott commented "Barack Obama made it clear - most of America is going to say 'that's our next president'". "This will bring Democrats back into power in the TX House and ultimately in the TX Government". "Having Barack Obama on the ticket is the most positive thing any of us could have wished for in terms of correcting all the wrongs we've suffered through since 2003 when Tom Craddick became the 1st Speaker of the House since reconstruction".
My take: I agree with both Eddie and Elliott. It's clear that TX will turn Blue on November. 8 is ENOUGH. It's time for a change and with Barack at the top of the ticket we will Turn Tx Blue!
In Historic Vote, Obama Officially Claims Democratic Nomination Washington Post
With the weight of history hanging over them, Hillary Rodham Clinton and the Democratic Party formally chose Sen. Barack Obama as the nominee for the White House, elevating the first African American to that exalted post and putting a black man a step from the presidency.
With a theatrical flourish, the roll call vote was rushed to allow Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to suspend the vote and "in the spirit of unity, with the goal of victory," declare Obama the nominee by aclaimation.
"Let's declare with one voice that Barack Obama is our candidate," Clinton said to thunderous applause.

Bob Barr is pulling conservative votes away from McCain. In TX, this difference could put Obama over McCain!
Go Bob Barr!! :)
The Zogby poll of 46,274 likely voters released July 6th, 2008:
- Obama 44 percent - McCain at 38 percent - Barr at 6 percent (a combination that hands Obama a handsome electoral college majority).
According to Declan McCullagh, CNET News, CA (7/17/08,
"Bob Barr could really hurt McCain's chances," pollster John Zogby said. "McCain can't afford the level of slippage to Barr we found among conservatives in this polling...Bob Barr has some juice among conservatives and is hurting him in several states."
I interviewed Barr at Netroots Nation. Here were some of the key take-aways:
Q: Are you in it to win?
A: YES!
Q: How are you polling in TX?
A: About 6%-8%, and we're polling in double digits in states like NH.
Q: Did you vote for George Bush?
A: Yes, in 2000, but not 2004.
Q: What is your platform:
A: Less big government, fight for rights to privacy under 4th amendment, stop our government from spying on our US Citizens, civil liberties, individual freedom, separation of powers "the Bush adm is only interested in increasing power of Exec Branch".
A direct quote from Barr:
"Unlike John McCain who said he hates bloggers, I love bloggers" (Per Barr, McCain made this statement at a town hall meeting".
Latest electoral college voting:
Obama 273
McCain 160
Undecided 105
During my interview with Barr, it was clear his mission was to get into at least one debate to help cause a 3-way race. Barr also pointed out that he's on the ballot in every state except OK.

Unless Democratic officials say otherwise later Saturday, it looks like Sen. Barack Obama will take 99 Texas delegates to the August Democratic National Convention in Denver with Sen. Hillary Clinton landing 94 delegates based on voting on primary day and at battles starting with the boisterous primary-night caucuses. It took this long to say (that's three months since the March 4 primary) so for sure because the total depended on which Democratic delegates showed up for this weekend's state convention.
So ink in the headline for sure: Obama Wins Texas.
Obama will be the Democratic nominee. It almost feels surreal, though, that after the long road of the last sixteen months the improbable outcome of an Obama nomination over the inevitable nomination of Hillary Clinton is now just hours away.
Which is why I'm floored to have been offered an Obama Organizing Fellowship and to know that in two weeks I will be working for Barack Obama in the bellwether state of Missouri.
Follow this fellow over the jump for a few thoughts on this exciting moment.
Over the last year and a half, my wonderful wife has been working hard on a grassroots level to support Obama. She's been there from the very beginning, and I don't know where our exciting Texans for Obama movement would be without her.
Specifically, I'd like to highlight her key role in organizing the big rally at Auditorium Shores. At that early stage in the campaign, Obama did not have a big advance team like he does now. Because Amy had managed several city council campaigns, she was able to cut through the red tape and get approval for the site location and arrange for most of the logistics of the event. It was a miracle that we were able to pull off such a big rally with so little lead time, but thanks to Amy, the event was a huge success.
Watch the photo slideshow below to see some events Amy has helped organize...
