Are you running for National Delegate?
It is a very small segment of people that get elected to National, but if you have been putting in the work, and want to give it a try, Texans For Obama wants to help you out.
Whether you have built a site and/or plan an phone/email/snail mail campaign, if you post a diary with your campaign spiel, your Senate District, link to your site (if you have one), pictures, etc and 'tag' it 'nationaldelegate' (as one word) it will show up automatically from the new link above for in the big blue box.
All National Delegate diaries will also get front-paged. So, get to campaigning folks, and hope to see you in Austin June 5,6,7, and later on in Denver!
thanks
mario

Some good Democrats in Bexar county (The Rules Committee, Zada True-Courage, Ian Straus, Larry Meads, Dick Waits, Nancy Timmer-Froment, and Mark Camann) have put together an excellent online training for how to run your caucus:
http://bexardemocrats.org/2008PrecinctConventionTraining.html
They walk you thru the forms step by step, as well as provide loads of practical advice (Bring pens, calculators, and make sure at least one supporter is there by 7pm to get the packet!)
Some key elements:
-Preparation: what to do before the convention
-Eighteen steps for conducting the precinct convention
-Practical exercises in calculation (the math part!)
-Resolutions: a few resources
-Solutions to the practical exercises
Read it, know it, share it, please!

(thanks again for great info! - promoted by mariochampion)
cross posted at Election Inspection
Previously we examined delegate allocation and the caucus process in Texas. The short version is that:
- Texas has 193 pledged delegates, as well as 35 unpledged delegates
- The Statewide Primary vote, by itself, determines no delegates and is merely a "beauty contest," except insofar as it translates into delegates elected in State Senate Districts, or through caucuses (in order to participate in caucuses, one must also have voted in the primary). It is very much possible that whoever wins the sum of the Senatorial District Primaries will not win the majority of Texas' delegates.
- 126 pledged delegates will be allocated proportionally in 31 separate primary elections conducted in each of Texas' State Senate Districts.
- 67 pledged delegates will be allocated through Texas' caucus system, the first round of which will be held in precincts across Texas at 7:15 PM on March 4th. 42 of these will be rank and file "at large" delegates, and will ultimately come from ordinary people who participate at their precinct caucuses, while 25 will be party leaders and elected officials (PLEOs).
This post will analyze how Texas' delegates are most likely to be split between Senator Obama and Senator Clinton.

hey all
the campaign is arriving in texas now, and there should be offices in the next few days/week, but they don't know what the merchandise count will be like.
if you bulk order from online (http://store.barackobama.com) you can email your receipt to awalker@barackobama.com (subject: Online order for Texas) and she will move the order to the front of the processing line. that should get it filled in a day or so, she pledges.
thanks

(Cross posted at Election Inspection)
Over the next month or so, you will hear many people talk about the "Texas Primary," to be held on March 4. I am here to let you in on a little secret - there is no such thing as the Texas Primary.
On the night of March 4, CNN and MSNBC will announce to the world that either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton has won the Texas Primary, on the basis of the statewide popular vote.
What There Isn't
There is no Statewide primary. Absolutely no delegates will be awarded on the basis of the statewide vote. That is 0 delegates. None.
Barack Obama could "win Texas" by 10%, by racking up large margins in Dallas, Houston, and Austin, by maintaining his strong margins among African American voters, and by holding Clinton to the ~20% victories among Hispanics that she won in New Mexico and Arizona, as opposed to the ~33% victory she won among Hispanics in California.
Hillary Clinton could also "win Texas" by 10%, by taking California sized support among Hispanics, by limiting Obama's margins in Texas' multiple large cities, and with the help of rural and small town voters in East and West Texas.
What There Is
On March 4, 32 seperate elections will be held in Texas. There will be:
- 1) 31 State Senate District Primaries
- 2) The Texas Caucuses
31 State Senate District Primaries

[editor note: two additional analyses on the delegate process and the statistical compositions of the 31 Senate Districts are on Burnt Orange Report
Everything You Need to Know About the Texas Delegate Process, Part 1
Everything You Need to Know About the Texas Delegate Process, Part 2]
How Does the Texas Primary Work?
Texas will send a total of 228 delegates to the Democratic National Convention. 126 delegates will be assigned based on primary results in 31 State Senate Districts (instead of allocating delegates by its 32 Congressional Districts like many states). The number of delegates in each Senate district varies based on previous Democratic turnout in the last two general elections. The delegates from each Senate District are assigned to candidates proportionally based on the percentages they receive on primary day.
Much Much More below the fold...

we are looking forward the next thing we are doing is registering voters, and educating people on the precinct convention process at one of the local catholic churches this weekend.
it is important to inform hispanic voters, and that is what we are doing. i understand that air has been purchased from 106.9 from the campaign so lets keep an ear out for it!
the next item on our agenda is having a local meeting for some "strategery" planning, details soon!
***mark your calendar for the fun run on Feb 23 ill post a flyer here online!

Hola fellow Obama supporters,
if you live in or around abilene now is the time to get involved!
we have a great group in Abilene. We have an upcoming Fun Run on Feb 23 we hope to raise money for signs and gear for everyone who wants to show their support. (we have had requests for the "republicans for obama" signs)
our volunteer efforts are 2 fold getting the word out. we have voter registration at St. Vincents Catholic Church this weekend, and plan to meet to organize more people very soon.
the second part is getting people out to the precinct conventions! In texas the delegate process is a series of conventions. we will inform everyone of the process so they can get involved. we will be holding a training soon.
yes we can

Texans, make sure we have your volunteer info! Let us know where you are and how you want to help.
Texans hope March 4 vote will be pivotal to campaign
Houston Chronicle
Texans watched Super Tuesday with an anticipation that the Lone Star State's presidential primaries will for the first time in two decades play a major role in the presidential nominating process.
The multistate political battle Tuesday seemed to almost guarantee that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama would carry their struggle for the Democratic presidential nomination into the March 4 Texas primary. But it was unclear, based on early returns, whether the Republican contest would continue as well.
..
Bill and Hillary Clinton have been politically active in Texas since 1972 and have maintained a network of politicians, including former Land Commissioner Garry Mauro and former San Antonio Mayor Henry Cisneros. Former House Speaker Jim Wright endorsed her Tuesday.
But Obama has built a network of youthful volunteers who last year put together a 20,000-person rally in Austin.
An IVR poll released last Friday suggested that 48 percent of Democratic voters in the state would choose Clinton, and 38 percent would go with Obama. Obama, however, was moving up in the survey, in particular with Hispanics under age 40.
