Well, what did you think of that debate?

Senators Obama and Clinton put on quite a show: Rich in details but still rhetorical from both camps, a few zingers here and there, and a very interesting closing from Sen. Clinton. Texas matters in a big way.

What stuck with you, what made you think? Let us know in the comments.

Great night for Obama (3.00 / 1)
I spent the night jumping from one debate watch party to another.  I was lucky enough to watch the first part of the debate from the inside the Rec Center.  Very cool.  Kudos to all the organizers for putting together a successful event.

But knowing that there were over 1,000 Obama supporters at Scholz Garten, I felt compelled to leave the debate and hang with my fellow Obama volunteers.  Upon arriving at Scholz, it was inspiring to see standing-room only crowds.  We filled the inside banquet room, the outside patio and neighobring Sagerunde Hall.  Incredible!

Regarding the debate performance...
I watched the first part of the debate, and it seemed fairly cordial.  But when I returned home and watched the replay of the second part of the debate, I noticed that Hillary got booed when she attacked Barack.  Wow.  If Texas is her "firewall", then it's not a good sign if she's getting booed here in the Lone Star State.

Voters are clearly tired of negative politics, and Barack offers hope that we can take our country in a new direction.

My 2 pesos (0.00 / 0)
I watched the debate at home. Please note that I voted for Barak in the primaries yesterday. I have been supporting him for several months.

A few observations:

- Barak started out sluggish and seemed a bit off his game. I think the cold was still dragging him down.

- Hillary started with confidence, focus, and energy. She seemed in the groove.

- A lively but civil debate on issues and differences in the first half. Early grade: Hillary A, Barak B-

- Both candidates are fired up about Health Care and where they stand. No new info though. Lots of fun watching both of them steamroller the moderators.

- Hillary is carrying the debate and the crowd until she crashes head first into the "Xerox" cheap shot. She loses the audience and Barak is silent and brooding, but visibly powers up. Cold, what cold?

- The now fully charged Barak carries the remainder of the debate. He has the perfect mix of details, values points, leadership, and vision. Clinton holds her own, but the crowd  is cooler to her after the cheap shot. Barak A, Clinton C+.

Clinton has a nice moment in the end. The crowd gave her a standing ovation, but it seemed more as a recognition of her years of service than as an acknowledgment of her candidacy. It felt like a fond sendoff to the candidate that just lost the race.

In short, Barak won.

Why is the last line of my previous post struck out?

hmm, you might have included a 's' tag inadvertantly (0.00 / 0)
which means strikethru. as in strikethru, thats my guess. i cant change it, but if it bothers you i can delete that comment and you can repost it.

leave it there, no need to repost (0.00 / 0)
No worries, people can still read it.

i am going to write a longer post about this, but (0.00 / 0)
i think what i see in Hillary Clinton's campaign is that, unfortunately and a little bit tragically for her, she has spent a lifetime mastering a system that is ending.

who was the last great master of poetry in the forms that preceded langston hughes? well the thing is, there were poets who spent their lifetimes crafting in a style that maybe they felt connected to or not, but they were dominant styles and these poets decided to not change the system, but work it from the inside, so that one fine day they would be atop that system.

but then culture changed, and that system didn't matter or have the weight and influence it did for previous generations. so, i do feel sympathy for Sen. Clinton and what i think is a life spent mostly the right way, but culminating at the wrong time, just a few years too late.

but mostly i feel even more hope (thats right 'hope'!) for Sen. Obama, and our great state, and keep enlarging the circle: "the world as it is in not the world as it has to be."

that debate clearly showed a calm, confident, not just ready to take charge, but already in charge Sen. Obama. Ideas matter, words matter, inspiration matters, organization matters, and that showed to me Obama is the stronger candidate.
