Problems with early voting in Houston

by: Chris Scott

Wed Feb 20, 2008 at 09:32:18 AM CST

(anyone else encounter problems? leave a comment, so we are all better aware, thanks - promoted by mariochampion)

How, and to whom, do we report voting problems?

Yesterday morning at 9:00 am, my father-in-law, a lifelong Republican, went to vote for Obama in Houston, in Precinct 0493, at the Altharetta Yeargin Art Museum.  He had a newly issued voter registration card, which he reports had not yet been used in any election.  He reports that he was told he was a registered Republican and had to vote in a specific area of the building.  When he got to the poll, it of course had Republican presidential candidates and thus he could not vote for Obama.

We do not know if this happened to other voters at that location or whether it was an isolated event/mistake.  But we lost a vote for Obama.

Can someone from Houston volunteer to go to that location to observe?  How else can we proceed?

I'd like to see them get real complaints that impact elections and not just overly hyped fraud allegations.

Problems with erly voting in Houston??? (0.00 / 0)
In response to Chris Scott's father-in-law's voting problem; there shouldn't be one.  If you go to www.harrisvotes.com, you could pull up a copy of a "sample ballot" (here's that link; http://www.harrisvotes.com/Sam... )  I early voted today in Denton County, TX.  No one asked, nor should they ask, whether I was voting Democrat or GOP.  Each party is on one ballot.  Unfortunately in my county, there weren't any Dem's running for certain positions.  I just left those blank.
During the primaries, however, I did have to specify whether I was voting Dem or GOP.  Which I thought was b.s. as well.
If someone asked me today, however, and told me that I could not vote how I wanted to vote, no matter what I was registered as, I would have not voted until I received answers from someone with more authority and/or knowledge.
So if anyone else is out there and hasn't voted yet, don't let the GOP's get away with this sort of scandal!
Let's turn TX Blue!
