| Fellow Texans for Obama,
Back in 2007, Rep. Mark Strama was one of the first elected officials in Texas to endorse Obama's presidential campaign. This story from the Texas Observer chronicles some of those early grassroots efforts, and to this day, Rep. Strama is still keeping the momentum going by engaging young people in the democratic process.
As you may know, every two years Rep. Strama runs a Campaign Academy that helps introduce students to the world of politics and campaigns. It's an excellent opportunity for anyone who is a junior or senior in high school or in college to learn more about campaign management and state government. It's also a great training grounds for learning the tools and skills required to continue electing Democrats.
However, there are still several spots available in this year's class, and the deadline for accepting applications for Campaign Academy is at the beginning of June. That's only a week away!
So if you know any young person you think might be interested in participating in this summer's Campaign Academy, please forward this email to them.
Additional details on the program, as well as application instructions, can be found at:

For those unfamiliar with the program, Campaign Academy brings together college students and high school juniors and seniors to learn the nuts and bolts of a grassroots political campaign - and to put what they learn into practice. Following an intensive, three-day training "boot camp" at the beginning of the program, the students become an integral part of the campaign for the remainder of the summer, supporting all aspects of the campaign's field, communications, fundraising, internet strategies, and assisting with other local campaigns.
Daily lunch speakers visit with the students and provide them exposure to every dimension of politics and government. Lunch speakers include current and former elected officials, journalists, policy experts, academics, political consultants, and bloggers.
There isn't a better opportunity to learn about politics, campaigning, and electing Democrats in Central Texas than Campaign Academy, so please spread the word. |
